Intercalated Award – The Wolfson Foundation. Bridget Kemball, 24 and from Stoke-on-Trent, recently finished the fourth year of her medical degree, and the award of £5,000 will go towards her living costs whilst studying for an MPhil in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Keele University.

Three Year 4 student doctors, Sumirat Keshwara; Natasha Varshney and James Baker, were joined by Professor Scott and Executive Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Louise Kenny this week to celebrate each winning a prestigious Wolfson Foundation Intercalated Award.The Award is administered by the Royal College of Physicians for outstanding undergraduate students at selected Medical Schools, who are likely to pursue a medical research career.Nominations were received and assessed by a panel comprising of Lord Turnberg MD FRCP (chair), Professor Victor Hoffbrand MD FRCP and Professor Michael Baum MBChB FRCS. The four highest performing intercalation applicants within The University of Manchester will be invited to apply for the Wolfson Award, a grant administered by the Royal College of Physicians. An intercalated award is an additional undergraduate degree (BSc or BA) or master's level programme that you complete in an intensive year away from your normal medical, dental or veterinary studies.

This awards programme is administered by the Royal College of Physicians, London.Each year, Medical Schools across the UK are invited to nominate up to three outstanding medical or dental students, each with a quality scientific project for consideration for the national Wolfson Intercalated award.
