2 out of 3 found this helpful. after the final credits, the film is reduced as its flavor, remembering Madame Bovary or Anna Karenina ,few plays by Tennesee Williams. One of the best performances by an actress that I've ever seen.

A lovely experience, actually, the writing never letting you down, and a moving one.My initial reaction to The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne was to be thankful that the attitudes prevalent in the 1950’s, and particularly the objectification of women, seem so anachronistic in 2018. I've been trying to find this movie for years, remembering the acclaim at the time of its release that Maggie Smith got, playing a character far different than anybody she's ever played before. In book it was awfully important as they all saw themselves and everything differently - another human habit which causes conflicts and wars. but the inspired manner to reflect the feelings, emotions and failure of leading character is the best memory about the entire film.
