Two major side plots have been added, one where Japp is conducting a north country lecture tour to raise funds for the police benevolent fund and meets Poirot and Hastings at Whitcomb. On the bus there is the unfriendly Norton Kane who is trying to grow a moustache and Mary Durrant. Nor is there much scope for mystery or additional suspects. Unlike the original, there isn't the problem with a one-way fare being the same as return, nor is there the character of Joseph Aarons. Captain Hastings, under Poirot's guidance, sets out to find the thief. NB The swings were not there at the time of the episode. A bored Hercule Poirot announces that he is going to retire and suggests that he and Captain Hastings go to the seaside for a short holiday. As Poirot has retired he leaves the case in the hands of Hastings who slowly puts the facts together and not surprisingly comes to the wrong conclusion.
